PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Based on this information and our experience of the operating system and hydraulic system we set about designing a new PLC program with HMI interface for ease of operation.
We carried out a FAT test of the new program where we simulated the various functions of the hydraulic system, traffic management and operator panel to customer satisfaction. We went to site and installed the new system in parallel with the existing system.
Once complete we carried out IO testing to ensure we had all the correct inputs to the new PLC. Once this was verified we up loaded our new program and began the testing and commissioning process.
All of this cumulated in full automatic operation of the new PLC with all SAT carried out to customer satisfaction.
Once complete we then switched over to the new PLC and used the existing on as a backup. We reduced down time to a minimum and ensured a seamless changeover to our new system.
THE CHALLENGES
With no drawings of the installed system we set about carrying out a complete IO check of all existing input and outputs form the old PLC ( 30 years) we carried out on site analysis of all the inputs and verified identified and labeled all of these.
